What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
A few things keep me inspired.

  • My future. I was tired of being overweight. I knew something had to change. God created me to do some amazing things, and I want to be able to serve him in the best way possible.
  • I also have a two-year-old son. He deserves a healthy mom to care for him. I never want to be a burden on my children.
  • Lastly, my community. I am the founder of a nonprofit organization in Detroit. I mentor teen girls to be successful in life. I wanted to be an example for them.

How did you change your eating habits?
I had Gastric Sleeve surgery. This helped me drastically cut my calorie intake. I also stay away from fried and greasy foods. I also no longer eat fast food. Instead, I focus on protein (at least 65 grams per day) and water intake (at least 64 oz).

What is your workout routine?
I am VERY active. I do Zumba classes three times per week. In addition, I weight lift four times per week and jog twice a week.

How often did you work out?
I work out six days per week.

What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
I started at 313 pounds, and I currently weigh 195 pounds.

What is your height? 5’6″ (a little taller)

When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
My journey began in January 2022. My surgery date was May 18, 2022. I lost 26 pounds on my own before surgery.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
I can do hard things! Losing weight has been difficult. I’ve tried and failed so many times. It’s been one of the hardest things I’ve had to do. However, I learned that I am capable and I can trust my body and myself.

What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
Bet on yourself. We take care of so many other people that we forget about ourselves.

Do what you need to do so you can truly live! Trust the professionals. Talk to your doctor and develop a plan that you are comfortable with. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Invest in yourself because you are worth it.
