What was your motivation?
Honestly, it came when I was looking at photos of myself and no longer recognized the person in the pictures. I was pretty disgusted with my appearance and no longer felt very attractive inside or outside. Also, in full transparency…. I lost the remote while on the couch, and it fell from under my stomach when I got up. That was the last straw for me!

What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
My health. I knew that if I continued on the path I was on, I would only get worse. But also, my progress was motivation. When I realized I could fit a pair of jeans I had purchased several years ago but couldn’t fit at the time, I knew I was on the right track.

When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started in 2021. It is an ongoing journey, so the transformation is not yet complete.

Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
I got the Vertical Gastric Sleeve in March 2022

How did you change your eating habits?
I had weight loss surgery, so you’re very limited with what you can eat. I can eat about 2-3 oz at a time. I also limit carbs, dairy, and gluten.

What is your workout routine?
I don’t have a set routine, but I do some form of weightlifting or cardio for at least 30 minutes a day. I also try to get out and walk a mile or two in the evenings. I also looooooove to do the workout routines Joie Chavis posts on YouTube!

How often did you work out?
Typically between 3-5 days a week, but there are times when I work out daily.

What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
I started at 270 pounds, and I now weigh 187 pounds.

What is your height?
5 feet, 6 inches tall

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
I have learned sooooo many lessons on this journey! But my biggest lesson has been that I am much stronger and more capable than I thought.

What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
Find a good support system, don’t compare yourself to others, extend yourself grace, and remember that progress can be a slow process! Even losing one pound is a milestone!

Also, therapy may need to be a part of your journey because for many people food is a coping mechanism to deal with trauma. For me, I had to tackle what was causing my addiction to food. I truly believe that is one of the factors that has allowed me to be successful this go around!
